We are in difficult times now when it is very difficult to stay healthy, eat right and our mental state is probably a little more ruined which makes us binge eat more than usual! Summer is close by and we do want to keep that beautiful bikini body rocking! By the way, where do you buy your bikinis? To make clear- anybody is a bikini body! This is the time when more than ever I am searching and trying out new, healthy recipes! Also for the best homemade healthy snacks to make at home that everyone should try out!
In the last couple of years, I always researched good and healthy snacks and their alternatives. There are few that are my favorites, that are easy to make and are much healthier than a bag of chips and French fries. When so many people say that they are binge eating like crazy and not guarding their distance from the fridge, I decided to share with you all the best healthy snacks to make at home that you must try out!
Apple slices with peanut/almond butter
You will need: Apple (banana or pear)
Peanut butter or almond butter
I usually use peanut butter (I have not even seen almond butter in stores here) but I know that it is in trend now to use the almond butter. Use anything you want. This is one of the first homemade healthy snacks I discovered and already tried out 3-4 years ago when I was single and living in my small apartment in Riga, Latvia.
Very easy but tasty recipe! You only need to cut your apple in slices and apply butter on them (or dip the apple in the butter) and you are done! Easy and so tasty.
Banana and chocolate mug cake
What you need: Banana
1 egg
1 table spoon of honey (to add sweetness)
3 table spoons of cacao powder
This is one of my favorite best homemade healthy snacks! If the snack I mentioned before was one of the first ones, this is one of the last ones that I discovered. If you read my Glam & Coffee diaries then you know I wrote about this before.
I know that many people are addicted to chocolate and crave it a lot! I am not very obsessed but there are times that I crave for some tasty chocolate. At the same time, I know that the tasty chocolate bars like Kinder Bueno or Kitkat are not very good for health so I barely buy them. That is when I discovered the mug cake recipe with a banana in it (that way you do not need to use flour).
What I do is I mix in a mug one banana, with one egg, cacao powder and I add honey (for the sweetness instead of sugar). Then I put in the microwave oven for 2-3 minutes. See yourself how much time it needs. I usually wait until it has risen to the Top! I have made normal chocolate mug cakes before but then you need to use flour, and this alternative seems a little more nutritious and healthier!
Carrot or sweet potato fries
You will need: Carrots or sweet potatoes (I usually use carrots)
A little bit olive oil
Spices (like smoked paprika, garlic powder, anything you like)
I have seen many people have air fryers. As I understand it uses air to fry food and you do not need to use oil, or at least not so much! I do not have this but I wish! If you have an air fryer then use it. If you do not, then just cut carrots or sweet potato, add a little bit of olive oil and any spices you like. Mix it all and put it in an oven to fry it and Voila, you have your tasty fries for that salty cravings! Be careful to not burn them (have happened to me).
Home made nachos with cheese
You will need: Mexican tortillas
Any low-calories cheese (like mozzarella)
I use Mexican tortillas for everything- I always make sure I have some at home because I use them for literally everything I can imagine! I make pizzas out of them, I make nachos and burritos and so many things!
A bit of small advice for you is to keep them in the freezer- that way the bread does not get spoiled! How to make nachos? Cut the tortilla in small triangles, apply shredded cheese on them (you can even apply fried tomatoes/ tomato puree, that way they will be like small pizza bites). put in the oven and here you have your own nacho chips that are tastier than the ones from a bag (and healthier too).
Remember to always be creative. You can also only make the chips and do not add anything or add some spices etc.
Dark chocolate with almonds
This is a pretty easy one- just buy dark chocolate bars that have almonds in them (or any kind of nuts you prefer). I mention the dark chocolate with nuts because that way you get some nutrition as well not just chocolate. Dark chocolate is very good for health, and you cannot eat all bar of it as other, sweeter chocolate options, therefore few pieces of this a day are very good and stop your cravings for sweets!
This is another snack that we always have at home.
Yoghurt with jam
You will need: Greek yoghurt or any plain yoghurt
Jam that is natural (maybe even home made)
Nuts, musli, granola (optional)
Normal yogurts that are in supermarkets are promoted as very dietic and healthy but they are not. Most of them have starches in it, lots of sugar, and all the colorants. There have not been any fruits nearby that yogurt. Therefore I love to make yogurts at home.
Buy any plain yogurt (greek yogurt) and add anything you like to it. Either it is some jam, fruit or granola! I would suggest to even make your own jam (because the jams in stores are not healthier either). Buy berries for example, or any fruits you like and mix them into a puree and add to the yogurt! You can also add a little bit of honey to make it sweeter, and if you feel like you are very hungry, add some extra nuts, granola, or dark chocolate chips! What I love about this, that you can make it interesting each time by changing up the ingredients!
These are all the best homemade healthy snacks that I think you must try out. What did you think about them and have you tried any of them?
