One day in Strasbourg (the best photo spots)

Some cities are meant to be visited many times- intentionally or not. That happens to me. The same happened with Strasbourg (which was small but at the same time a big part of Eurotrip). I have been to Strasbourg three times but every time is a different experience and also with a different company.

I have never prepared for a trip so much as I was preparing for Strasbourg. By the way, we were there only one night. Probably that is the reason why I was planning the smallest details (even made a route in Google maps). I wanted to make sure that we visit all the important spots in the time that we are given.

Strasbourg is enough for one or two days. I want to share with you my experience, where to eat and hun the prettiest photos for your Instagram feed. For more photos, outfit pics and travel stories- follow my Instagram page HERE.

Accomodations

First of all, unintentionally, as in excitement I started to plan what to see and where to eat and all the important travel details, I also looked for hotels.

It made me surprised that it was not difficult to find a good hotel, close to the center with a good price and breakfast. I found Comfort hotel which was not far from the center, next to the river, with private parking, lovely environment and helpful staff as well as tasty breakfast on their terrace (with champagne and gummy bears!).

If I am not wrong, the price for breakfast is 8 Eur for one person. Not cheap but wait until you go to Germany (we saw breakfast for 25 Eur in some hotels- did they serve pure gold? Tiffany diamonds? Who knows!) Who else gets excited about breakfast in hotels? Only me?! Oh, well!

1. The museum of modern art (skaista siena are melnbaltiem gleznojumiem)

When going from the hotel to the old town and center of Strasbourg, walking by the river (it takes like 20 min. to reach the old town); right before the bridges to the old town you are going to see black and white art on the wall. That is the Museum of modern art and is a fantastic background for your photos (a colorful outfit is a must).

You can obviously enter the museum as well if you are interested in art. I am not as much (especially modern art), that is why I continued my way to the Barrage Vauban!

2. Barrage Vauban

At first, Barrage Vauban can seem something closed and unaccessible for people, but it is not. Need to follow other people inside (it is like a closed type of bridge over the river), and climb up the stairs. You are going to be a little bit over the city and other bridges, therefore the view will be amazing! We did panorama photo shoots and also some selfies and outfit photos. The best view to all the bridges, the river and iconic Strasbourg buildings (Petite France) is from here!

3. Maison des ponts couverts

Maison des Ponts couverts are probably one of the most iconic buildings in Strasbourg (even though there are so many that it would be a huge competition). House looks likes coming straight out of fairytale about magic forests and goblins- the whole wall is covered with green plants and the house is very picturesque. It is located on the Island and seems completely isolated from civilisation.

To grab the best photos of the house, just find the edge of Place Benjamin Zix and you’ll see that you’ll have a good view of the Pont du Faisan and Maison des Ponts couverts.

4. Rue du Pont Saint-Martin is other bridge for pretty view

When you will go around the small Strasbourg, you will find a lot of beautiful spots for photos and your joy. I am only sharing the ones I found amazing and sharing with you. It is amazing how small the center of Strasbourg is but how much there is to see! It is like a piece of art!

Pont Saint-Martin is another bridge of lovely Strasbourg houses. You can have the view and take photos of the river and Strasbourg wooden lodged houses in the background. Try to go there in the morning if possible because later on, it is a very popular spot for tourists (as I noticed). Some even taking tripods and taking photos using a timer- which means a lot of time and annoyed me (hehe).

5. Place de la cathedrale. Rue du chaudron.

Now you have reached the culmination of Strasbourg- its majestic and beautiful cathedral Notre Dame which in my opinion (and also my bf’s) is more impressive than Notre Dame de Paris. It is gigantic, and every detail and lace of the cathedral just made me gasp!

Do not forget to visit some souvenirs, wine and gastronomy shops. You do not need to buy anything, but only for the vibe and atmosphere.

A tip! Take a glass of wine or cup of coffee on the terrace of “La Cigogne” (right next to the cathedral) and catch that French charm.

6. Place de Marche historique

Change your direction a bit and go South. The only 2.min from the Cathedral is a beautiful place with plenty of souvenir shops, cafeterias and bars, restaurants and again the picturesque and iconic buildings to take some lovely photos of. Especially beautiful during Christmas season when all the houses are decorated in fairy lights.

7. The International school des Pontonniers (Harry Poter school)

I am not Harry Poter fan (yes, yes I know- shame on me), but even I was impressed of this school and how amazing and different, than any school I have seen, it looks like. Seems like coming out of the Harry Poter movies for sure.

When following my route, you are going to step outside the center in front of the river and this school- and right from there are the best pictures with this building. If you are a Harry Potter fan, I can imagine how much you are going to like the building of the International school. Covered with trees, next to the river, away from crowds and the center of the city, this location give another magic feeling.

8. Pont Royal

Another spot which, unfortunately, we did not reach due to how tired we were after a long trip and how hungry we were as well. Photos on internet looks bomb though. Therefore I recommend you to reach Pont Royal, especially if you are into architecture and churches.

From Pont Royal, you are going to have a great view of St. Paul church. Another beautiful, old masterpiece that turn photos into piece of art.

9. Pastry shop Christian

I have always loved beautiful and picturesque locations, stores and restaurants. That is why, when you get tired of all the walking, I suggest you to take another street on your way back to will reach the pastry shop “Christian”. This pastry shop has all kind of delicious cakes, croissants and sweets, as well as coffee, but not only. Facade of the building is so “Instagrammable” that you are going to want to take plenty of photos! Thank me later!

Food and bar suggestions

1. Zehnerglock (the restaurant is located next to the Cathedral, local food and good prices).

2. Le Michel (very beautiful location with terrace for your coffee and afternoon tea).

3. Troquet des Kneckes (is located in the center, good prices- around 15 Eur only).

4. The fox (lovely and small spot next to the cathedral to take some drinks)

Gourmand du cafe

5. Au brasseur ( If you like beer, you must visit Au brasseur! Tasty craft beers, affordable prices and amazing food. We had our dinner in there and we do not regret at all!)

I suggest you to try their goat cheese salads, cafe du gourmand (coffee with 4 different, small desserts) and Monaco (beer drink).

6. La Cigogne (great for having glass of wine or cup of coffee. Cafeteria is having a great view to the cathedral)

7. L’Artichaut (Craft beer, beautiful interior and tasty food with affordable prices. )

8. L’ami schutz in Petit France (that beautiful facade talks of itself)
