Best classic movies for women of all times. Movies are the best thing ever discovered and created- those are my thoughts. Nowadays I do notice that more and more movies are not so much about class and elegance but about horror or vulgarity.
There are many movies that I love to rewatch, they are inspirational, motivational and make me think about values and life. If a movie does not make your brain cells work then what is the point?! The same goes about books (Read the blog post of the best motivational books). Some movies are just an old good classics which I might not want to rewatch but which I think every woman should watch in her lifetime at least once.
I decided to make a list of my favourite female movies. There are many, many more but I wanted to list the most important ones, movies with a message. These are the ones that are my favourite and that I suggest, so yours might be different ones but these are just mine.
1. Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Classy movie with a classy woman- Audrey Hepburn. Which woman does not know about this movie? I knew about this movie a long time ago, I did not know what it is about if it is about breakfast, a jewellery store or what exactly but heard that “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is a classic moment.
You will not believe me but the first time I ever saw it was only one year ago and I can tell you that I was hooked from the first minute until the last one. This movie is different than any other I have seen, with a very simple but interesting plot and different humour, classy humour than what we are used to.
Even though I did not arrange this list from my favourite to the last ( I would need to think about that for too long time, months or years), this is the movie that inspired me to write this movie list for you so “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is definitely my Top 1.
Synopsis
A young New York girl becomes interested in a young neighbour- a writer who has moved into her apartment building (and has a “sponsor” to pay his bills), but her past threatens to get in the way.

2. The Notebook
“The Notebook” is a movie every woman talks about and a movie every boyfriend cries about. (RIP to all the boyfriends who were forced to watch this movie with their women).
“The Notebook” is one of the most popular romantic love stories where a woman from a wealthy family falls in love with a man who is just a dreamer with a coin in his pocket. A story which has been told in many movies but only a few has become a success, including “The Notebook”. You can have one story but what matters is how you tell the story and “The Notebook” has touched even the coldest souls.
Synopsis
“A poor yet passionate young man falls in love with a rich young woman, giving her a sense of freedom, but they are soon separated because of their social differences.”
Rating: 7.3 on FilmAffinity

3. Pretty woman
Pretty woman is one of the movies I already loved and remember from when I was a child and always reach out for it when I have no idea what to watch. A perfect role play between Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Julia Roberts play this poor prostitute with a big heart and dreams to leave one day that awful hole she is in. One day while working she meets Richard Gere- wealthy millionaire who does not want her to go so easily. No after one night and not even after five.
I think Julia Roberts plays her role so well while dressing as her prostitute role but acting as a classy lady with a big heart, showing that we all can have different situations but our clothes and even profession do not define what we are as a people.
Synopsis
“A man in a legal but hurtful business needs an escort for some social events, and hires a beautiful prostitute he meets… only to fall in love.”
Rating: 6.4 on Filmaffinity

4. The Devil wears Prada
“The Devil Wears Prada” (how cool the name of the movie is?!) is one of my favourite movies to go watch over and over again whenever I have nothing to watch. Love the actors, love their play and love the plot.
In this movie Meryl Streep plays this hardcore Cruel deVil boss of a huge fashion magazine, showing the stereotypical environment of the fashion industry I think that is a very important story to tell and show people- I as a fashion blogger can tell you that.
I have always seen Meryl Streep in movies as this strong but feminine and friendly woman and to see her in this cold heart role was a different experience but at the same time, she plays it very convincingly. In front of her stands this young girl (Anne Hathaway) who has a dream and is ready to do everything that her boss told her to, but until what point? Will she be ready to lose her love?
Synopsis
“A smart but sensible new graduate lands a job as an assistant to Miranda Priestly, the demanding editor-in-chief of a high fashion magazine.”

5. Bridget Jone’s Diary
One of the rare Christmas movies which you can watch all year around and not feel ashamed of (or is that just me?!). Also one of the movies has three parts and each next one is better than the one before. The last one came out only three years ago, after 12. years of pause.
I would be lying if I said I was not nervous that this part might not be as good as the first two, but the third part of Bridget Jone’s Diary (called Bridget Jone’s Baby) came out perfect. Renee Zellweger looking better than ever and playing her role with the same funny ideas, mind and jokes.
The story is close to a lot of women in the world, telling the problems of middle-class women in society. How to feel confident, loved and good in your body and shape if magazines, TV and society tell you otherwise?
Synopsis
“A British woman is determined to improve herself while she looks for love in a year in which she keeps a personal diary.”
Rating: 6.3 (1st), 5.4 (2nd), 5.4 (3rd)

6. Bride wars
Another cheesy romantic movie for others but for me,egos this is a great movie with a great message: friends will always be there and sometimes we just need to get over our ego.
Another movie I return to over and over again when I want a movie to cheer me up. Interesting that the cheesy movies which I like a lot has Anne Hathaway playing in them, there is just something about her natural way of acting. Beautiful actresses, love, dream wedding and dream wedding dresses- all that you will see and enjoy in “Bride wars”. In this movie Anne Hathaway teams up with Kate Hudson– another amazing and beautiful actress that I enjoy and love.
Synopsis
“Two best friends become rivals when they schedule their respective weddings on the same day.”

7. P.S. I love you
One of the most popular tragic love stories between Titanic and Romeo and Juliet. And another movie that our boyfriends are forced to watch and hate us for.
Beautiful but at the same time hard and sad story about how to overcome the lost of someone you just sat together, building dreams and a future together and lost in a second. How to overcome that big, black hole and be able to see the future and life in all the sadness.
“P.S. I love you” was able to create a love story of one person and the memories of another person she just had and lost unexpectedly.
Synopsis
“A young widow discovers that her late husband has left her 10 messages intended to help ease her pain and start a new life.”
Rating: 6.4 on Filmaffinity

8. Eat. Pray. Love.
One of the movies which is based on a book of the same story. Even thought as usually I do enjoy story in the book more than a movie, but it is definitely not because of a bad play of Julia Roberts or movie bad made if not more of just the capacity the book has to make us fantasise reading colourful descriptions of people, environment and discussions.
I always enjoy movies with not only beautiful and strong women but also travels and amazing, spectacular nature, views and sightseeing. “Eat. Pray. Love.” shows us single, divorced woman finding herself and meaning of life (and maybe love?!) while travelling around three different countries (Italy, India and Bali). How to be single, strong and not depend on anyone and still love ourselves when no one does?!
Synopsis
“A married woman realizes how unhappy her marriage really is, and that her life needs to go in a different direction. After a painful divorce, she takes off on a round-the-world journey to “find herself”.”

9. Amelie
A French classic, a bit interesting and has a different plot movie that has made it to many tops and lists. This iconic French haircut woman has been known by many people. I saw it a long time ago and definitely need to see it again in the nearest few days (making this list made me realise how many movies I have forgotten).
Beautiful and elegant French actress we all know- Audrey Tautou plays this stereotypical Parisian in this French type of comedy and drama (to be honest I have never seen this movie as a comedy). French comedies have a different way of showing jokes and plots of comedies.
Synopsis
“Amélie is an innocent and naive girl in Paris with her own sense of justice. She decides to help those around her and, along the way, discovers love.”
Rating: 7.8 on Filmaffinity

10. Moulin Rouge
Another movie takes the plot in beautiful Paris, France. I love this movie a lot, but it is not the movie I rewatch a lot, at the same time I enjoy this movie and it definitely deserves to take a spot on this list. “Moulin Rouge” is a musical type of movie, and saying, I am not a huge fan of musicals and to be honest I do not like them at all but “Moulin Rouge” might be the only one I actually enjoy.
“Moulin Rouge” has very strong, powerful songs you will want to sing along sang by iconic and famous singers as Nicole Kidman and Kylie Minogue, beautiful scenery and breathtaking dresses.
Synopsis
“Tells the story of a young English poet/writer, Christian, who falls in love with the star of the Moulin Rouge, cabaret actress and courtesan Satine. It uses the musical setting of the Montmartre Quartier of Paris, France..”
Rating: 6.8 on Filmaffinity

11. You’ve Got mail
“You’ve got mail” is another different love story with a more interesting plot than other romantic movies has. I remember that I saw this movie as a child/ teenager for the first time and even my brother really liked it (and he is not a romantic movie type of guy).
I mentioned before that not always the story or message is important but the way how it is shown, and who shows the story.
Actors. In this movie, I think the actors had a huge part in why I like to rewatch this movie and why it deserves to be on my favourite movie list of mine.
We all know that movies where participate Tom Hanks are with interesting and different plots and messages. Every one of them is very different and this is no exception.
Synopsis
“The film is about two people in an online romance who are unaware that they are also business rivals.”
Rating: 5.2 on Filmaffinity

12. Coco before Chanel
All of the movies I mentioned before I have watched at least once… or at least 100 times. This is a movie I have never watched but is one of the classics and one of the movies that real fashion and beauty lovers should watch. Really ashamed I have not seen this yet. I added this because of the great reviews, plot and actors that this movie shows us and to remind myself to finally sit down and watch.
I feel like Audrey Tautou is one of the most classic and popular French actresses having the best roles and movies. Probably because of her French stereotypical appearance and ability to be very feminine and elegant. Who was Coco before came Chanel?
Synopsis
“The story of Coco Chanel’s rise from obscure beginnings to the heights of the fashion world.”
Rating: 5.7 on Filmaffinity

These are all great women movies. My all time favorite is pretty woman. I cry every time when he’s at the bottom of the stairs calling for her. How sweet is that?
Yes! And I love the moment when she return back to that lux store where she got treated bad all glam up!
Yes, big mistake…BIG MISTAKE! That’s right. I love that line.
Nice list. Now I know how I will be spending the rest of the weekend.
I am happy I could give you a plan!
Thank you for reminding me how much I love P.S. I Love You. Have to rewatch!
You are welcome. While making this list, I reminded myself about a lot of movies 🙂
