How to find your unique style as a woman? The question that many men and women ask themselves (including myself). Finding personal style is not easy, and I know it is even harder in times of influencers and trends. My opinion is, that people, talk about minimalist style and taking care of the planet, but trends and fast fashion are blooming, not only between midclass fashion lovers but also famous influencers.
Therefore, finding your style, something that makes you happy and shows your footprints is not easy- I get it. Only this year did I start to not only follow trends but combine styles, follow my creativity and play with clothes. Therefore, I want to share ten steps on how to find your style if you feel lost. Follow my blog for more free fashion content and tips.
Know your body type
The most crucial rule to look good is to dress according to your body type. You will never look good if you will not dress appropriately for your body type. For example, I am a petite woman, with an hourglass figure, but a heavier bust part. Therefore, for me is always difficult to find clothes that fit me and look great on me. However, when you practice, play with some pieces during shopping sprees, take photos, you realize what suits you the best and whatnot.
If you need my help with your body type, you can contact me or write down in comments how may I help you.
Find your style icon (with similar body type)
What I have started to do lately, is to find my style icons (preferably with a similar body type to mine). I recently wrote a blog post on the best stylish fashion Petite icons. However, I also like to look at fashion or lifestyle bloggers with a similar style to mind or similar way to view fashion. Start by typing in Google searching for “best hourglass/ square/… body type fashion icons”, or look at celebrities and fashion influencers. It is a good way, to see different styles and outfits on real people, and see if it is something you would wear.
Think about your daily life/ routine
Do not forget to think about your daily life and routine. Does your everyday life include working in the office? Maybe you work with active kids? Or do you run from building to building around the city? Your style should be comfortable for you to wear and appropriate for whatever activities you do. Therefore, when you do the shopping and finding your style, consider your daily routine.
Find your style inspiration
Use Pinterest or Google search to find your style inspiration. I usually do that every season, when I need inspiration, not only for blog posts but also for my style. That will also help you find new bloggers and fashion icons to help you. Save outfits to different boards, dividing by the season and styles.
Create a fashion mood board
Another new activity that I have started to do, is creating mood boards by cutting my fashion magazines. Cutting out and gluing down mood boards helps my fashion inspiration, but also helps to declutter magazines and helps me to relax. However, if you do not like to make real-life boards, you can use the same Pinterest boards or make one on the Canva app.
Research stores and online shops
Look at your favorite stores and search for stores that are within your budget. Make a list of your favorite online stores and shops in your city to know where to go for inspiration and shop for your style items. Knowing stores to head to when you are shopping, will save your time and also not take away your attention from your style and what you are searching for when shopping!
For example, I shop for bikinis only on Shein; for leather jackets, I go to Pimkie; I shop for jeans from Zara or Vero Moda, and I know some great boutiques next to my house. I suggest you look around your city for outlets and small boutiques- they usually hide high-quality unique clothing for an affordable price.
Analyze and organize your closet
Look into your closet- which items do you wear a lot and why? Are they comfortable and great with your everyday routine? Do they make you happy? After doing that, you can search for outfit and style ideas of how to style them up, and you can even play around with your items. Make some photos to save for later and to see from the other side. Many times looking at photos, you can have an actual picture of the outfit.
Create a capsule wardrobe
After analyzing your closet, do you have all the essentials? Does your closet have leggings, jeans of your style, basic t-shirts, and other staples that you need for your style looks? Having a few good-quality basics in your wardrobe, that you rotate, and style up will help you organize your style. Keep it simple, make you look luxurious, and help save up money! You do not need hundreds of looks, only a few staple pieces to rotate and mix-match with each other.
Do a shopping list
Make a shopping list of items you are missing to end up the look and styles. Now it is time to make the shopping list items with staple pieces, accessories, and some trendy pieces of your style that you are missing. Look at the list of your favorite shops and boutiques, and happy shopping.
Ask Help!
Nowadays you can find a lot of help online and also in stores. Many stylists offer their services online. I have been thinking about helping people as a personal shopper and stylist. I am a big fan of fashion subscription boxes and personal stylists online- many times both come hand in hand. If you need help with your style, do not be afraid to ask specialists. Last week I posted a comparison chart and review of different subscription and stylist boxes- I recommend you to look into that!
Quiz to find out your style
As a bonus, I decided to direct you to the online quiz. Maybe the quiz can help you with your style and put your mind in the right direction.
The quiz linked is the first quiz I found on Google, but there are so many that you can take! My score said that I have classic and trendy fashion styles! Please share with me in the comment section down below- what is your style!
