Fashion trends 2019 (spring/ summer)

What I usually do with fashion trends is: go shopping, buy what I like and then I find out that color or style is in the trend right now! Or, I read about fashion trends, understand I would look like an obese chicken in that clothes, and then I go buy what I like.

Either way, I loved the year when leather leggings, cold shoulders and female details were in style, It was my style, suited me great and was just on point. I will add, I still wear that and few other trends from years before!

So why I do not want to be “besties” with summer trends this year and which might work out if carried out in nice manner? Continue reading!

P.S. Do not get offended or take it seriously. I love fashion and I am still obsessed with all the styles and brands and catwalks. This is just the fun way to introduce you with new trend and let you know my honest opinion.

Beige colour (especially in blazers and coats).

This makes me think it was created by Burberry to bring back their iconic trenches. Conspiracy! If seriously, beige coats are classic value which I do think will always be in “style” but for me I think I look like a detective from Sherlock Holmes series. Trenches in general are more suitable for tall ladies and not cute short girls (me!).

Which goes for the colour, beige is lately my favourite to go. Everything can be paired with beige (in my wish list is beige skirt with zipper or button ups and from that suede material, let me know if you know where to buy it).

Beige is the colour of season and I do not mind that!

Tie dye (Peace hippie)

And here we start to ask: what the actual …? Why? Who? and WHERE? Why is this is style? Who decided that and where will I wear that?

Tie dye has never been a style for me, I have never been hippie, natural and free mind kind of person. Seeing beautiful women being dressed up in tie dye on the catwalk is little amusing. They call it- California style!

Prada/ Etro/ Calvin Klein/ Marine Serre/ Sportmax

Okay, let’s be serious in here! When I watch to all that crazy colours and mixes all together, it seems like a fun carnaval to me. If we separate some pieces, maybe change a style to something I like, keeping the “California style” it might actually work. For me with only few colours because lately I am not really into multi coloured outfits.

Lace and masculinity

This is the trend that first appeared in the Cruise collection for spring. My style is not masculinity type of clothes, maybe because my body and hair and face looks not even close to masculine or men. For me style is all about feminism, natural colours and feminine details. When I incorporate lace in my outfit, that is usually in girly dresses or blouses.

Victoria Beckham/ Cristopher Kane/ Burberry/ Marco de Vincenzo/ Alexander Wang

With that being said, I do think that some lace with masculine details can work very good. Where I like to incorporate lace is the different materials. I like lace with jean skirt, pants or cute girly shorts, for an example.

Folk details

Coming from country where folk and pagan traditions are very strong. We (Latvians) have one of the biggest summer solstice festival in June and we love to dress in our traditional folk outfits. That is why folk detail outfits work great- for these occasions and days only. For style, fashion and catwalk? Sorry, no, next!

Even thought folk details do not make me jump from excitement, two of the outfits I saw on catwalk could work which goes for pattern if we would change the style a little bit! I have seen on Pinterest some cute, feminine dresses with a bit of folk details, so in some rare occasions this Folk trend might work! So hit me up if you have the cute folk dresses or outfits to send me (hehe, KB).

1st (Jacquemus) an 2nd dresses are my favourite

Feathers and fringe.

Well and here we are! One of the crazy trends that I would unfriend anyone who would want to have a coffee with me dressed like this. Is Susan the mean bird from fantasy movie called Neverending story-

or maybe Cristina Aguilera will appear singing “Car wash”? We will never know! Literally remind me those big brushes from the car wash services, do you agree?

Gucci dress vs car wash

Everyone has his own style and fashion, but I think there should have some limits and restrictions… maybe even restriction order or notice to visit special doctor?

I might just go ahead and do a DIY video of how to make your own trendy feather look by using car washing microfiber.

Loewe dress vs Microfiber

Vogue says it is the next seasons party wear. Well, I can not imagine Sandra Bullock in a car war brush on red carpet or someone entering a club with the brush- like feathers on! It might be safe on the road still- everyone will notice. Maybe the attention seekers to change lingerie kinda party dresses to something like this- All men in the club are yours girl! Okay, okay- this is just NO from me as Simon would say.

Sun hats

Sun hats for summer are very cute accessory I think. Just adds that kind of detail, girly accent and also helps to keep your hair down and protect your head from the sun. I have even thought to get one myself for the last year.

But what do you imagine when thinking about a cute sun hat? Maybe some natural coloured sun hat with a cute colourful bow on or that wide, black widow style of sun hats?

OR maybe you imagined something like this?

Emilia Wicksted/ Erdem/ Moschino/ Simone Rocha/ Rodarte

No? How dare you? (P.S. Me neither).

Nuns, widows and dandelions- it is your summer!

Floral prints

I like floral prints. Even though I do not wear and buy them too much because I have discovered that it is more difficult to pair them with other pieces as well as I find myself getting bored of the floral piece much faster than of one coloured clothes, but I do intend to fall for some floral printed clothing from time to time. I especially like smaller print flowers all over the dress, in my opinion that looks very girly and summer-like.

I do like the yellow skirt with black flowers on!
Paco Rabanne/?/ Versace/ Marni/ Michael Kors

Antique, old school type or vintage type of floral prints are not for me. It is not my style, also very colourful looks. I just find them to be difficult to wear or find occasions to wear these prints and in case if you are budget tight, I would suggest you to keep away from a lot of colours or prints as much as possible because most likely you will not get so much use out of it as you think you would and will be difficult to find reasons to wear it.

Tutti Frutti shades or Colorful juicy colors

I noticed this picture of colourful blazers and I could not imagine a better name to call this trend than the Tutti Frutti trend. Fruity cocktail in its best. AND then I read the description on Vogue and it literally says the same thing, awkward.

Roksanda/ Gabriela Hearst/ Escada/ Gucci/ Sies Marjan

I might be into a nice coloruful blazer. I am actually searching for a red blazer to pair with jeans and Converse. What I am not really into is to be from head to toes and one Tutti Frutti package. Also the trend states that the best is to not wear anything underneath. Not really fan of naked skin underneath the blazer.

HUGE Bows (Hi Jojo Siwa)

Hi Jojo Siwa, How are ya?

Big bows are iconic for Jojo Siwa and who knows? Maybe she was the inspiration for the trend as so many iconic youtubers are friends of Jojo Siwa and buy her products and at the same time leave a lot of money in brands as Gucci, Balenciaga and others.

I Love bows! I like bow printed clothing, I like bow designs on perfumes or makeup and shoes or other accessories like bags BUT I like when it is done in feminine, classy and beautiful manner. I feel like luxurious brands lately go for very cheap look.

The happiness is in the faces of models!
?/ Moschino/ Marc Jacobs / Maison Margiela/ Richard Quinn

At the end you buy 1000$ dress for example which looks like a dress from Aliexpress worst reviewed item (but a bit better quality if you get lucky). I really do not understand the idea of it and maybe that is why I have always liked more classy brands like Chanel and Dior which has historical respect and reputation than the blossoming brands like Fendi and Balenciaga.

Bike shorts

You can now officially go to a date right from the bicycle. How happy this made me! I just bought a new bike shorts for summer and as I am pretty tight on the budget I am happy that I can not only wear the shorts for sport activities but also to go shopping, on a date or job. Love that for me, and everyone else and also… not going to happen!

Chanel/ Roberto Cavalli/ Jacquemus/ Fendi/ Prada

How do we get these trends on menu? Can I invent next trend to be “invisible clothing trend”? (being really smart right here, KB). Well I do not know, what do you think about this? I am just thinking, sports is sports and fashion is fashion. Why to mix? To make you look more active and hide your ice cream, sofa and Netflix mood 24/7? Conspiracy! Shane Dawson? You can come out now!

Before we jump to the next one, I will note that many trends I see on other people or bloggers I really like but I am just not myself comfortable to wear elephant size bows or bicycle shorts for when I go out to a date or work.

BIG jumpsuits

Mam’, Does your sink leaks? Do you need a paint job? I just saw a woman walking by the street in worker jumpsuit and looked like she has a free afternoon and can look at your sink now! That is what came in my mind when I saw THIS!

Giambattista Valli/ Hermes/ Alberta Ferretti/ Louis Vuitton/ Isabel Marant

All the plumbers and painters, you are good and can go on a date right after the work. No reason to change or anything! Isn’t that wonderful? Maybe that is the whole idea in this busy world- to wear the same outfit for everything- sports, work or events.

Remember those tailored, on the body shape, classy jumpsuits women wore with high-heels? Forget about it! Go to maintenance store and buy your fashion outfit right now!

Acid wash denim

I like denim and jeans- pants, skirt and shorts. I think they are great and easy to wear and can be worn in more classy way or casual style. Depends on the shoes and accessories you pair the denim with. I know there have been “fashion gurus” saying that we should forget about jeans if we want to look classy and luxurious ( I think this myth has died since the Blogger and Youtuber era).

Balmain/ Isabel Marant/ Proenza Schouler

80s are back! Acid wash denim will be in the style this season. I have never got my hands or to be honest, even eyes, on this type of denim. Has never caught my eye or seemed something attractive for me. But more I look on the pictures, more I liked it. I can imagine acid wash denim skirt with converse and red blazer- would look BOMB!
