Are there enough cruelty-free beauty resources? I let you pause and go right into the comment section and let me know what you think. I made a poll on my Instagram, and people were very active on my poll: saying that there are not enough information and resources about cruelty-free beauty.
As some of you know, recently I had a beach trip. I read my magazine on the beach and saw it filled with sponsors and commercials- always Dior, Chanel, and YSL. At the moment. I realized- mainstream resources are pushing the same brands, and brands that are not cruelty-free. That made me realize no matter what I do or buy, I get pulled back in the same old toxic narrative of chosen elite brands. I will be also mentioning some problems that I have encountered as a cruelty-free beauty newbie, and why it is difficult to be cruelty-free.
However, I decided to work on cruelty-free resources. Firstly, I did a poll to see if people are interested, and what they think. Secondly, I wanted to do some research myself on these resources (which is this blog about). Thirdly, we will see what will be the third part of this whole research project. For the blog post, I decided to search for cruelty-free magazines (as the idea came from the magazine), blogs and bloggers, social media influencers, and YouTubers.
If you are reading this, and you are or want to become cruelty-free, please comment on any concerns, thoughts, or questions you have about this topic. I am turning myself cruelty-free, as well as this blog, and taking you with me on the journey, and your input would help me and animals. Therefore, do not forget to like, share and follow my blog for the support and getting the news (new exciting projects coming your way). As for now, let’s start our FBI spying series on “are there enough cruelty-free beauty resources”?
Cruelty-free beauty magazines
Let’s start with cruelty-free beauty magazines as that is how the idea came to me. I tried to google different cruelty-free beauty magazines. However, what I found was more in the way of blogs and web pages than magazines. I also do not say that maybe there is some cruelty-free magazine in Italy or Hungary! It is not possible to know about every village in the world, I am talking more about a mainstream, well-known cruelty-free beauty magazine.
I would be happy if there were a magazine (even in digital format) that would talk about cruelty-free and vegan beauty around the world. Magazine that would write about smaller and bigger brands, products, newbies, even sustainable fashion in as many languages as possible.
The best I could find is a Cosmopolitan article about the 7 best cruelty-free brands. While the same article is covered with commercials from Chanel and Dior. Isn’t that funny and hypocritical?
Cruelty-free beauty blogs and bloggers
As blogging is my niche, hobby, and passion, then this is what I was the most excited about. I knew about a few well-known pages that I always look at for information. For example, the Cruelty-free kitty blog is well known for the newest information about cruelty-free brands and products! Usually, when I type in google asking about the brand being cruelty-free, it is always the Cruelty-free kitty article that jumps out first. Cruelty-free kitty gives the most accurate and correct information in detail. Therefore, if you are interested in some brands and their cruelty-free status, you can always find the information from Cruelty-free Kitty!
I came accross a blog that looked interesting. Therefore, I decided to look at it closer. The blog is like a lifestyle blog, with the main focus being cruelty-free beauty and sustainable fashion. Sustainable fashion is another topic that we are going to be talking about in the future. After reading the story about the blogger itself, it talked to me, and I will be reading this blog myself.
There are lists of different cruelty-free beauty blogs and bloggers. However, I am planning on writting about that in another article or maybe in some freebie for you. Therefore, I did not want to dive deep into listing blogs. However, for your knowledge, there are some that you can read.
INSTAGRAM INFLUENCERS
There are plenty of cruelty-free influencers that I was not aware of. Starting with Beats by Lizzie with her famous eyeliner looks, Alex Marie’s artistry with her bold artistic makeup looks, and Demi Colleen, which is more about natural beauty and skincare routines. I even found cruelty-free hair product queen Kristen Learner that has created hair color company Arctic Fox and looks like a true mermaid. I am nicely surprised by how many cruelty-free beauty influencers are there and famous influencers with many followers. Everyone only talks about around ten problematic beauty influencers. However, there are so many more that deserves attention and are much more valuable!
Cruelty-free YouTubers
The same goes for cruelty-free beauty Youtubers. I found a lot of cruelty-free makeup and skincare YouTubers, that are also vegan. It makes me happy that a lot of people show a great example and inspire people. Not only that, I am excited that many people support and watch them! I could mention again, not enough people appreciate smaller, non-problematic YouTubers. Please, be aware of who you watch and where you put your money into!
Problems I have encountered
As for the last topic of the blog post, I wanted to talk about some problems that I have encountered since I became cruelty-free. Let’s start by talking about free samples and products. Many online pages offer free samples with the orders. Sometimes you cannot even choose, and many times there are not cruelty-free products at all. As an influencer, I have realized that many agencies and platforms offer only or mostly non-cruelty-free brands and products. Therefore, many influencers do not even think or try to be cruelty-free. I would suggest for these platforms and agencies to at least add to the product information if it is cruelty-free or not. The same goes for events or fun activities that have mainly just brands and products that test on animals. Since I became cruelty-free, I have rejected many offers of PR or to participate in events organized. Even from brands like Guerlain only because they are not cruelty-free.
As a cruelty-free blogger, it is more difficult to get recognized and participate in PR events. PR events are so crucial for contacts.
