A hidden pearl of Spain- Extremadura. Foreign tourists know a lot about Andalucia, Catalunya, Galicia and everyone knows about Tenerife (some only knows Tenerife and have never seen real Spain). However, what about Extremadura? Ask yourself how much do you know about Extremadura. If not a lot, do not worry because today I will tell you a lot about famous places to see in Extremadura, the culture, gastronomy and so much more. You better get comfortable and take some snacks because this might take a while but you will not regret it!
My story of knowing Extremadura goes back to five years ago when I visited Spain for the first time (and started with Extremadura). That was also the time when I started blogging and writing about my first visit to Spain. However, now I have better insight and decided to write a more detailed blog post about Extremadura and cities in the region. Finally, does the city of Dragons located in Spain? Let’s find out!
What cities to visit in Extremadura?
Badajoz
The first city I visited as a tourist was Badajoz. Badajoz is the city I wrote about a lot in my first blog post. Since then, I have visited a few more times and each time I see something else. What I can suggest is to be careful in restaurants when ordering because the size of meals is big!
Merida
One of my favourite cities in Extremadura is Merida. The city has so much history and culture. I suggest paying 16EUR for the entrance ticket to see Amphitheater, circus and so many more places to see for one price. I have not done it yet (have visited Merida twice) but next time I will do that finally. Maybe try to go very early when they open up as it fills up with people rapidly.
Amphitheatre is one of the best I have seen in my life, one of the biggest too and in summer the festival of theatre is held here. It is a famous place for wedding photos.
Caceres
I visited Caceres this winter and I had no idea that Game of Thrones was filmed in this city. Did you know it? If I am not mistaken, season 7. Seeing the beautiful city with its castle I am not surprised. The city has a nice atmosphere, in general, to just have a great walk and lunch. I suggest trying their local cheese.
Trujillo
Trujillo is another nice village, similar to Caceres. Honestly, we could not even decide which we like more. Caceres is more famous, but somehow Trujillo seemed even more interesting to see.
Medellin
Medellin is a great city to visit in the morning or afternoon when you are bored and want to have a nice walk! The city is beautiful but not big. However, I suggest visiting the amphitheatre, castle and the ancient bridge.

- A lot of countryside, nature, and a nice spring vibes (with cherry blossoms).
What to eat in Extremadura?
Jamon (best Jamon is in Merida).
Bacalao dorado (can get anywhere in Extremadura but the biggest portions are in Badajoz).
Meat (steaks, Ibericos). Any meat meal is the best quality in Extremadura.
What I wore? Travel fashion inspiration
One of the best fashion items I have discovered is the button-up shirt! I always have a button-up shirt with me to style with my outfits, whether those would be denim skirts, bikinis, or dresses!
Dresses have become one of my favourite travel fashion looks. I feel comfortable in dresses, I can eat more and still feel good when wearing dresses and they look better in photos. However, to feel comfortable and enjoy tourism, I always take white sneakers with me!
